A Clot in time

: “I was just 19 when I first heard of haemophilia,” recalls Ranjana Ramchander, General Secretary of the Bangalore chapter of the Haemophilia Society. “My fianc�e told me that he was a Person With Haemophilia (PWH). There is so little public awareness about this genetic disorder, which affects one in every 5,000 men globally”. Along with her late husband, Ranjana wanted to help others with haemophilia and so set up the society’s local chapter in 1993. It is one of 62 India-wide chapters affiliated to the New Delhi-based Haemophilia Federation (India) or HFI. This body, in turn, is linked to the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH).
